Which thermal gloves do you need?
Thermal gloves are rated to EN 511, the European standard for cold protection, and the right choice depends on the temperature and the amount of handling involved. For outdoor winter work, a fleece or acrylic lined grip glove such as the Showa 451 keeps hands warm while leaving enough dexterity for tools. For cold storage and freezer work, where hands are in contact with frozen goods for long periods, choose a fully coated insulated glove such as the Showa 477 or an insulated gauntlet such as the Showa 460.
Where cold and wet come together, choose a waterproof thermal glove. The Showa 490 combines a waterproof coating with an insulated liner, while water-repellent options such as the Skytec Argon keep out light rain and damp with less bulk.
Finding the right fit and features
Match the lining weight to the temperature and the task: a heavier liner for static work in freezers, a lighter one where hands are moving and handling tools. Look at the coating too: latex grips well in cold, damp conditions, nitrile resists oils, and a fully coated back keeps wind and water out. A longer cuff stops cold air reaching the wrist, and some styles are available in multipacks for site teams and seasonal staff. Always check the temperature rating and product specifications for the conditions you'll be working in.
