Which waterproof gloves do you need?
Not every glove sold as waterproof offers the same protection, so start with how wet the work is. For full immersion, washing down and handling wet materials all day, choose a fully coated waterproof glove such as the Showa 377, where a complete nitrile coating keeps water out of the liner. Where hands need to stay dry but also cool, the Showa Temres 281is water-resistant and breathable, letting moisture out while helping to keep water off the hand. For damp conditions, light rain and occasional splashes, a water repellent grip glove such as the Showa 306 gives better grip and dexterity at a lower cost per pair.
Finding the right fit and features
The coating decides how a glove performs when wet. Nitrile resists oils and holds up to abrasion, latex grips well on wet and damp surfaces, and PVC suits heavier handling and chemicals. Check how far the coating extends: a fully coated glove protects the whole hand, while a palm or three-quarter coating keeps the back breathable for lighter tasks. A longer cuff or gauntlet stops water running in at the wrist when working with hoses or submerged materials. Waterproof gloves still carry an EN 388 mechanical rating, so match the cut and abrasion levels to the task as you would with any work glove, and check the product specifications for the level of water protection.
